Conversations Across Borders Project

The test of literature is, I suppose, whether we
ourselves live more intensely for the reading of it.

The Conversations Across Borders project pairs writers together across borders (national, geographical, or cultural) to collaborate on a new piece of creative writing based on a given prompt. The work can be poetry, prose, or a hybrid form—or perhaps something else entirely.

Paired writers decide between themselves whether to respond to the prompt with a single piece or with individual pieces that speak in conversation with one another. There are no minimum or maximum length guidelines.

Completed work is hosted on the Conversations Across Borders website. We also ask each participant to write up a narrative describing the social and creative process they went through.

We are doing four separate writing prompts this year. After each prompt, we'll ask participants to partner with a new writer.

The prompts:

Winter (Jan 1-March 31): Water

Spring (April 1-June 30): Air

Summer (July 1-Sept 30): Fire

Fall (Oct. 1-Dec. 31): Earth
